Fellowships

Do you have a PhD and would you like to join our department by raising your own funds?

There are multiple fellowships that you may be eligible for, depending on your research area, country of origin, or specific academic degree. For any such fellowship, which include the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Ambizione or PRIMA fellowships, the EMBO long term fellowship, and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship you should approach the faculty member whose laboratory you would like to join.

If you would like to apply for an SNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship, we require that your application is sponsored by a faculty member within our department. This member will typically be close to you in terms of research interests. If he or she would like to sponsor you, you will be invited to give a seminar and possibly meet with other members of the department. Subsequently we will discuss your interest and credentials in a meeting of professors. Starting in 2020, university regulations require that our faculty and staff assembly, which takes place twice a year, vote on sponsorship of any Eccellenza candidate. Since all these steps require time, we recommend that you initiate contact with your potential sponsor at least six months before the fellowship deadline. In addition, we note that the space situation is difficult at the Irchel campus, which means that flexibility in space usage as well as space sharing may be required.
